Electronics Engineer

This vacancy is for an Electronics Engineer in the National Telecommunications and Information Administration within the Department of Commerce.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS- 11 level:

Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 in the Federal Service or its non-Federal equivalent performing the following: Designing electronics material used in such activities as detection, ranging, viewing, illumination, surveying and/or data processing; Assisting in the development of maintenance programs, training equipment and/or repair procedures; Prescribing corrective measures to resolve equipment failure; AND Analyzing wireless communications systems -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION Applicants may qualify with 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, OR a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

As an Electronics Engineer, you will perform the following duties: Reviews electronics circuit elements, equipment and subsystems that encompass a wide assortment of electronics material. Develops electronics circuit elements. Analyzes wireless communications systems. Inspects newly installed or modified equipment and systems for conformance to performance requirements. Evaluates adequacy of maintenance programs, training equipment and materials, operating manuals and repair procedures. Resolves equipment failure or unsatisfactory performance problems. Revises checkout and inspection procedures. Certifies completion of installations.
